In Loving Memory of John Farias

Donation protected
After a hard fought two month battle John succumbed to his symptoms on January 16, 2024 with Jamie, the love of his life, by his side. With the loss of John's support we will be continuing this fundraiser to continue to support Jamie and JJ with this impactful loss...as well as pay it forward. As of March 19, 2024 (John's first heavenly birthday) 25% of any donations made will go towards a scholarship fund in John's memory for high school students entering into a trade or the culinary arts. Encouraging students to follow their own path into a trade or vocation is something both John and Jamie have always felt strongly about. John attended career days with Jamie at Millis High School, where she previously worked, as well as in Florida at JJ's school, to help students learn about the world of career possibilities the exist outside of a traditional "college/university" path. The amount of support thus far has been overwhelming and it would be so meaningful to Jamie to be able to give back in John's name.

Additional details regarding the scholarship fund will be provided as they evolve. Please check back for further information.

About John "Johnny"
If you knew Johnny you knew him to be the type of guy who willingly carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. He was a devoted husband and father who truly cared about those he loved, and he loved with all of his might. Johnny was one of the hardest working people many of us had ever met – taking pride in being the provider for his family. If you've ever been cold in the winter, Johnny was there. If you have ever needed a home cooked meal, Johnny was there. If you ever needed someone to stand behind you no matter what the cause, Johnny was there. Johnny was one of the good ones, who was always there for others, and we will remember him dearly in our hearts.

Previous Details on John's Battle
On 11/16/2023 John went to the ER because he had been having a lot of issues with dizziness, disorientation, extreme fatigue, not sleeping well, poor appetite, all of that leading up to him falling that evening. In conjunction with some additional factors, it was discovered John had a condition called hyponatremia, which is very low sodium levels in his blood, and can be life threatening. He was admitted to the ICU, since correcting the hyponatremia, along with treating other pre-existing and new acute underlying problems needed close monitoring. The first 24 hours in the hospital John was relatively stable, but some trouble breathing lead John to aspirate on the evening of 11/17 and he stopped breathing. The incredible medical staff immediately went into action, performing CPR and stabilizing and intubating John. John was then placed into a critical care therapeutic cooling protocol, which involves in the simplest terms, a medically induced coma and internal core temperature cooling. This protocol is standard after CPR with intubation to try to allow the body to recover best and hopefully minimize potential brain injury from any lack of oxygen that occurred. After the protocol was completed, John has had some other setbacks with his airway, liver and kidneys. He has undergone a series of procedures including dialysis, which is still ongoing, and a tracheostomy on 11/28. On 11/29 an MRI of John's brain discovered he does have some mild/subtle changes indicating injury from the lack of oxygen, but he does have the ability to recover- it will take time, work, strength, determination, and continued excellent medical care to give him his best chance.
