Lori Totten’s Wishes and Cancer Support

As most of you who know, or who have been blessed to know our Mom Lori -

she has been fighting breast cancer for 2 years and it has been quite the journey.

She started with a mastectomy with the lowest stage of breast cancer in June of 2021 her prognosis was saddening, but promising at the time. After surgery she was announced cancer free, but we were met shortly after with the news that they wanted to still give her chemotherapy due to being unsure that all was removed and her type of breast cancer was at risk of spreading/recurrence. She went on to take on chemotherapy, but she was having allergic reactions to all treatment, this was a rough road for her. She fought through and did complete as much treatment as her body could handle, but her pain has never fully subsided - endless doctors with no answers.

We recently met with her doctor (November 2023) after having a PET scan and MRI - her cancer has returned, but according to scans it is in multiple organs and she has lesions present in her bones. At this time the Doctor says it is considered stage 4 and a terminal illness. She doesn’t want to put her through the agony of treatment, but wants her to focus on quality of life over extending her days with failing treatment options and being hospitalized.

Now.. This is the part that none of us can accept…Her doctor says she would estimate for her to be with us for the next 6-12 months, without treatment. The healthcare system failed her - this should have been detected a long time ago, but that’s a story for another day. From today I just want you to focus on being there for her and supporting her journey, through prayer and love.

I don’t know if anyone told these Doctors, but only God can make this calling and we are on a healing journey! Please continue to pray that we can somehow heal and turn this around. We need a miracle and prayer brings miracles!

However, reality is - She will face financial burden with not having the ability to work like she once could due to the overwhelming truth of this illness and her tiresome days. Truthfully, she deserves rest and peace of mind. She also has wishes of taking a vacation with her children and digging her toes in the sand while watching her grandbabies play in the ocean and we hope to be able to give this to her and experience this with her. Her only request was toes in the sand and a margarita! Help us make her wishes come true and lessen the burden of this ugly disease.

She deserves all of her flowers while she is here and with us. Please love her, all of her! When you see her, smile and just be kind. LOVE HER ENDLESSLY AND EFFORTLESSLY- she deserves it more than anyone I know.

In the coming months we hope to share the many experiences with her that she deserves and hope that we can share this lasting journey with all of you - because if there is anything God knows it’s that this woman is already heaven on earth and we deserve to have her here with us as long as we can - living her best life. ♥️
