Cover Medical & Memorial Expenses for Drew Markey

We are heartbroken to share that Drew Markey, husband of our beloved friend Lauren Carroll, recently lost his life to a traumatic brain injury caused by a cycling accident.

Drew was riding with a large group on November 13, 2023, as part of a longstanding weekly ride through Winston-Salem, the city he called home his entire life. He was taken to Wake Forest Baptist, where he spent over a week in the trauma ICU. We are grateful he was able to donate his organs to help other families hold on to the people they love.

All who love Lauren were overjoyed when she met Drew. Their 10-plus years together were the happiest of their lives. To spend time with them was to witness two best friends who truly delighted in each other. Drew was Lauren’s world, and his sudden death leaves her with the impossible task of moving forward without her person.

Drew loved his people so well. To know Drew was to be loved by him and to experience true kindness, warmth, and compassion. Above all, Drew loved Lauren, and he would want to know that she is going to be okay. Losing Drew has already emotionally devastated Lauren. We do not want his loss to financially devastate her, too.
