Cover day to day expenses until Liver Transplant
Donazione protetta
Hi,
My name is Matthew Weaver, I am 43 years old. I am married to my wife Julie of 15 years; we have 3 children Rhiannon 17, Sheyanne 14 and Matthew 21. In January 2023 I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. I was able to work as a Technical Support Specialist for Federal Signal Corp, Including Vactor and Elgin for over 26 years. I was able to continue working until my cirrhosis and liver started to take a turn downwards and forced me to resign my position from the company. Having been in the US Military, American Legion member of 15 years and Commander of the Ottawa American Legion Post 33. I have always given back to the veterans and the entire community when I am able.
In September 2023 I found out I require a full liver transplant ASAP. However, to receive one or even be placed on the list, I must meet certain conditions. I will be eligible in April of 2024 to be placed onto the transplant list if all goes well. My Dr.’s at Northwestern University Hospital are very encouraged by the progress I have been making. I have been in and out of the hospital on several occasions due to complications being caused by the cirrhosis. Our goal is to make sure I am healthy enough to have my name added to the list first.
We are trying to continue my Cobra insurance coverage to ensure that no problems arise due to insurance complications. My wife was able to work until November 2023 until she was forced to take a permanent FMLA until I can receive the transplant as she is my sole caregiver and I need 24 hour care 7 days a week.
With not knowing the extent of my condition, I was planning on returning to the workforce in one capacity or another within a month or two. Unfortunately complications from the cirrhosis prevented my return and with no return date in site, we are beginning to struggle with some expenses as the extra emergency funds have depleted. Major costs include insurance, unexpected repairs to home or vehicle, gas, basic utilities, medical supplies and medications not covered by insurances. During surgery and recovery my wife and children will still require food, fuel, hotel expenses and the many others costs that come up unexpectedly.
