It’s a shame about Ray…
Please help us to save our friend’s life: Ray’s Emergency Rehab Fund
Please help us save the life of our dear friend Raymond Shaw. He is going to kill himself with alcohol abuse in the short term without an intervention – however… he has hit rock bottom and is now ready to be helped. We need your help to check him into rehab. But first let us explain why he is worth helping…
We have known Ray since we were kids, growing up in Margate in South Africa. Ray’s early life was tough as his Dad was murdered when Ray was just 12 years old. This, I think, has always been the route cause of all his trauma.
Following this Ray developed a serious drinking problem for a while, but the great news is that Raymond has always fought his demons… and won. He managed to give up booze and has stayed sober for the majority of his adult life.
Ray has led a full life - he works hard, he's a great mate and would help anyone out when their chips were down.
Over the years Ray has sometimes relapsed - and when he does it's a car crash. He will drink for days on end with terrible consequences for his health, his work, his finances and his relationships.
Every time this has happened he has eventually hit rock bottom, picked himself up and – all on his own – got clean and sober and sorted his life out.
On Ray’s chest his tattoo reads "Rise & Rise again until lambs become lions"... that's who Ray is, a fighter.
Now Ray is in a fight for his life. Earlier this year his Mum died. This triggered the worst relapse we have seen - a months long binge that has put him into by far the worst state he has ever been.
His pancreas is shot. He hasn’t eaten properly for weeks. Every time he drinks it could literally kill him.
The good news is that we have not given up on him, and he has conceded through a flood of tears that he needs help and he wants a to live, he wants help. This time we don’t think he has the strength to rise again without a little help from some friends.
We want to raise just enough money to put Ray into rehab for a full 28 day rehab programme. We know with a little bit of support he will come right again. And the fact that he has put his hands up and said he needs help is all we need to hear, to know this is a worthwhile exercise.
If this story resonates with you, or anyone you know, please please contribute and share share share and help us to help our friend. He is worth it.
