Sally Grimes, local celebrity ---UPDATE---!!!
Donation protected
UPDATE: First of all, we want to sincerely thank everyone who has donated so far to Sally's cause, whether it's time, money, resources, or suggestions for other ways to help. We knew we could count on the compassion and generosity of this amazing community.
I had a nice visit this morning with Sally and wanted to post an update. Due to the kindness of our community members, we were able to pay the balance of Sally's December rent and pay for some food and utilities. A wonderful community member has started a meal train and she and her husband did some light cleaning and organizing in Sally's apartment. They'll go shopping later for more items with money that others have donated. I am overwhelmed at the care and concern and help we have had for our Sweet Sally.
I was hoping for some good news regarding Sally getting back to work per the feedback from her Dr and physical therapist. But it seems that Sally won't be returning to work any time soon, as her balance is still causing her some issues and her right leg isn't working like it was before her fall. Even if given medical clearance, Sally herself does not feel confident about making it safely through a shift at Walgreens. We don't know when she will get clearance, but we will post updates here.
Sally is open to the idea of wearing a medical alert device, so I have been researching options and prices. If anyone has any experience or suggestions regarding this, I would very much appreciate it. I know there is the cost of the device, and then a monthly fee for the service. That's about all I know.
We are on track to pay Sally's January bills, a big relief for her due to her job uncertainty. Also, as of December, her rent renewed and it went up $120. I wish places wouldn't keep on raising rents for older folks on limited fixed incomes. There should be a law against doing this, but that's just my opinion.
I am attaching the link here for the meal train. I made white chicken chili for her tonight. And she's covered for tomorrow, but feel free to check out the link and contribute if you would like.

Thanks again, everyone, and have a wonderful Sunday. I am available if anyone has any questions or suggestions and wants to contact me directly and my contact info is on the fundraiser page.
Good evening Anthem Family. I am not a regular poster on social media, but some of you may know me. My name is Mia Luecking, and I am raising money for Sally Grimes, my friend, neighbor, and our favorite Walgreens employee and Anthem resident. She's aware that I'm doing this and I have permission from her to tell her story. She did not want me to take a picture of her though!
On the Thursday before Thanksgiving, Sally fell at home and she was unable to get up to reach her phone. She was finally able to drag herself to her balcony and call for help. Some wonderful neighbors called 911 and she was taken to the hospital and stayed there on Thursday and Friday. She is unable to return to work until she gets clearance from her PT, and she had her first appointment today, but her next appointment isn't until Monday. Her Dr thinks she had a small stroke because her right leg isn't working like it should. I visited with her twice today and a handful of times since she came home from the hospital. She still has her boisterous and contagious laugh and is trying not to let this get her down.
But she is concerned that she will be evicted from her apartment because she can't pay her December rent. When she told her only daughter, her daughter said, "Well, maybe that will be a good thing." So it is unlikely that Sally will get any help from her, and she has no other family.
This coming Thursday, it will be three weeks that she will be off work. She really relies on the money she gets from that job, and as most of you know, she so enjoys the social aspect. She loves Anthem so much and all the people here. And we all love her. That said, we are also hoping to raise some extra money so she can have a head start for her next months rent, as we have no idea when she will get her required clearance to return to work and we don't want her to go through this again.
We know it's a busy and expensive time of year. Many of us struggle in this new harsh economy, but I have seen this community come together so many times for the residents here, and it is so heartwarming and encouraging. Sally needs us. Her laugh is worth a million dollars and Sally herself is priceless.
Please donate what you can to help her. Let's see if we can meet our goal.
Thank you everyone so very much.
