Travel for synostosis surgery and helmet for Aria
Donation protected
Aria was born Nov 3, 2023.
She came into the world at 8 pounds, with red hair, a loud voice, and what her brother affectionately called "a football head". I immediately noticed the top of her head was long and narrow, her temples pinched in, and the pediatric nurse informed us her anterior soft spot was extremely hard to find.
After an ultrasound found nothing abnormal, 3 weeks of researching, requesting tests and being kept awake by a nagging feeling that the doctors were wrong to say everything was fine, a CT scan confirmed that Aria was born with her sagittal suture mostly fused. This condition is known as Craniosynostosis, and if left untreated for too long can lead to blindness, seizures, and a large handful of other issues created from a child's brain growing in a skull that isn't capable of growing with it.
Her surgeon is located in Oakland, CA. Treatment for Aria will include a large amount of travel back and forth.
Any funds raised here will go to travel expenses, cover pay lost when both parents need to travel for surgery, and any remainder will be put aside to help pay for the cranial helmet she is required to wear for 6 months after surgery to help her head move towards a more rounded shape, which we have been informed our insurance will not cover.
We appreciate and are so grateful for any donations, anyone sharing our page, and any prayers for our baby to have a successful procedure and come back home happy and healthy.
