The Mauler Family

On March 29th of this year, my step-father, Dennis, suffered a heart attack & entered the hospital. He underwent triple bypass surgery and ended up facing complications the day he was supposed to go home. He coded and had to go through cpr for around 20 minutes. They were able to bring him back but he had to have a pacemaker/defibrillator inserted, which ended up having to shock him multiple times leading to them doing a heart ablation. During the ablation, he had to be placed on life support to help him rest, which is when he suffered a stroke (leading to loss of mobility in his right hand) and also lost blood flow to his left foot. The restricted blood flow caused gangrene in his foot and resulted in them having to amputate his leg below the knee. He was in the ICU for 5 weeks and has bounced around from hospitals & rehab facilities due to his weakened heart ever since. He hasn't been home since the morning of March 29th.

The week before his heart attack, he has just started a new job, which meant he no longer had insurance. He had to go on Cobra insurance from his previous job which is very expensive. He obviously has not been able to work since & had no short or long term disability. We have applied for disability but it could take months before it is approved. My mom, Jill Mauler, is now their only source of income.

We are not the type to ask for handouts, but this year has taken a huge toll on all of us, most of all, Dennis. He is fighting very hard to come home & we are all extremely appreciative of those who have helped us during this time & for anyone even taking the time to read this!
