Luffy’s Ear Rehabilitation

Donation protected

I am JoAnne Hasler and my pups name is Luffy.
For those of you that know me know of my struggles that I have had since fostering and the adoption of my dog this year. We have had many health struggles the last 9 months. The story is long but the outcome is the same my baby boy is going to need surgery to remove his ear canals. This is a last resort to give him some comfort from the severe neglect that he sustained before landing at my door.

This is a very expensive procedure we are facing. Our next steps are going to be going to the University of Madison in Wisconsin.

UPDATE on Luffy 11/27/23 - we have been back and forth to the vet over the past two months with his ears and this has been a nightmare beyond nightmares. From the start of his rescue back in February his ears have been his main issue and we thought we had them under control and could manage them. At this time to control the pain they are recommending they he has a CT scan and Total ear canal ablation in both ears. I have talked to two different specialists here in Illinois and the most reasonable one I can find to do the surgery is 12k with the CT scan. He is having problems eating because of the pain in his ears and I do not see any other way to help this situation other than the surgery. I have exhausted all other options over the last 9 months.

For those of you that do not know his story I will share it here. This following was his 6 month update of his health.

Some of you may know my story with my rescue pup “Luffy” that I brought into my life in February. He was the most sickly guy around. He was skin and bones, his ears were in such bad shape that they wanted me to do a surgery and remove his ear canals because they were completely closed. He also had his collar embedded in his neck it was awful. He had no hair on his tummy and sides, his skin was black from allergies and neglect. And last but not least his kidneys were not functioning properly.

It was a six month journey to get him back in good health ( his ears may still need additional surgery down the road but for now they are good ) I had him tested for his allergies and started immunotherapy which is a nine month course we are six months in. He is on no other medications except for treatments for his eyes which he will need forever. His ears need to be done every other day but all maintenance that can be handled. He was also getting three baths a week with medicated shampoo which we are down to once a week. Two weeks ago the vet said he was a miracle dog and gave us a pretty clean bill of health.

I will post the pictures from when I first got him and how far he has come.
