Hi, my name is Sarah. I'm Deana's daughter and currently her full time caregiver. We have waited some time before sharing the news of mom's current health issues. Mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer this year and it has spread. She is also in organ failure. After we have exhausted almost every benefit available, I have taken FMLA to be her full time nurse, caregiver and joke teller. We do have medical care through a hospice company that we worked with previously with Granny. As you can imagine, my mom is still as strong as ever on the inside. However, finances are piling up and we've come to ask for help. FMLA is unfortunately not paid while caring for a parent. It is not lost on me as we head into the holidays, especially with my own children, that many struggle financially already. We just need to rally some help to maintain and move through mom's passing. She is an incredible woman. While this is not something I ever envisioned doing, I am honored that I get to be with her. This has become an incredibly humbling experience. We do not know how many days we have left with mom, we just take each one as it comes to us.
