UPDATE:

Hi all,

I wanted to update you and THANK YOU all for the miraculous support you've given Maddy and Roel over the past week. They have been flooded with donations both on and off GoFundMe, had so many loved ones visit, and have had prayers coming in from all directions.

I'm so happy to share some good news with you all. We finally have (most) of the answers as to why Maddy was so so sick and she is now well on the road to recovery- if all goes as planned, she will be released from the hospital today (12/5/23) after 12 days in the hospital.

What we know now is that she has both Epstein Barr Virus and Cytomegalovirus at the same time and because she’s been sick so often lately, her immune system had a rare response to those viruses where it caused her to acquire hemolytic anemia. Her red blood cell count had been dropping significantly for several days before she got into the hospital and just kept dropping more once she was there causing most of her symptoms. At one point she was down to 4.6 hemoglobin level (normal is 14-10) so she could have died without intervention. They gave her 3 blood transfusions and now her hemoglobin levels are rising on their own and pretty much all of her symptoms have cleared.

This is an amazing answer to prayer that she does not have cancer and likely does not have an autoimmune disease. Keep praying that she will get stronger and stronger by the day and something like this will never happen to her again!

Hi everyone,

I'm Ryan Sins, Maddy Salinas's middle sister. My wonderful little sister has been in the hospital for several days now with an undiagnosed sickness that is causing her to be very weak and have constant fevers. She has been sick for about a month leading up to this but has recently had to be hospitalized as her symptoms have only gotten worse.

This has been a super hard time for her, her husband Roel, and our whole family. It's hard to see someone who brings so much light and joy to the world struggling the way that she is.

We anticipate that this hospital stay is going to be very expensive for the Salinas family and it was an expense they were absolutely not planning on. I'm calling on our friends and family (and any good folks that know Maddy and Roel by association or have mutual friends) to give any amount that you can to help them get back on their feet once she's out of the hospital.

I know this is a tough ask during the holiday season, but any amount you can give helps tremendously. If you aren't able to give, please be praying and sending Maddy all of the love and the good vibes you can. Thank you everyone.
