Help keep Scarlett Safe and live a normal life

Hi, many of y’all know me but for those who do not, I’m Natasha. I’m fundraising for my childhood friend, Catskill local, Kayla McMullen and her boyfriend Shaquille Simms. Their 3 year old daughter Scarlett started having unexplained health “episodes” about a year ago that were very sporadic however recently have become more regular and have gotten worse where she collapses, passes out, heart rate drops, and she stops breathing. She has been brought by ambulance several times and admitted to both Albany Medical Hospital and Columbia Memorial Hospital. After several EKG’s, trips to neurology specialists, being intubated, tons of blood tests, MRI’s and other tests I’m unsure of they are sent home with no diagnosis. As a parent, I couldn’t imagine cooking dinner in the kitchen, calling for my daughter in the next room and not getting a response to finding her blue on the floor. It happens at the most random times. When she is watching tv, playing outside, doing arts and crafts, napping. This last time about 2 weeks ago Kayla recorded the 911 call. Scarlett blue with her heart rate at 32 beats per minute, unresponsive fighting to wake her up. Then once they got her to come to Shaquille gentle shaking her telling her to stay awake. It was a panic that no parent should have to experience. Kayla’s voice cracking broke me. She is one of the strongest women I know. After this hospital stay, they left again with no diagnosis and a referral to take Scarlett to a heart specialist. The earliest appointment they can find within a 2 hour drive is months from now. Kayla and Shaquille are sleeping in shifts. Kayla is a full time nursing student and bartends local events which she is putting on hold due to Shaquille working evenings. Scarlett is no longer going to daycare because the provider is not comfortable and neither are her parents. I am starting this fundraiser to get Scarlett an actual heart monitor device and a defibrillator. Her insurance does not cover one without a diagnosis. This will work as a way to monitor Scarlett’s heart and alarm her parents when it is starting to drop low so they can “shock her” to restart the heart while they call 911 and wait for an ambulance. This will aid to keep Scarlett alive. Getting this for them will hopefully allow them to sleep a little easier at night. Any donation counts. No amount is too small. Let’s get this little girl a defibrillator!!!
