Somehow posting this news makes it all seem painfully real. My daughter, Lydia Biehl age 22, was diagnosed about 3 weeks ago with stage 4 melanoma cancer that is attacking her organs and spine. After numerous appointments, tears, curses and prayers, we are here to ask for help. My first instinct as a parent was to bring her back to my nest and care for her. If you know Lydia Jane, that is not what she wants. Her soul is fiercely independent and stubborn. She wants to continue on with her life including sharing an apartment with her sister, Adeline, spending time with her friends, loving her boyfriend, and cuddling with her cats, Taco and Nugget. She isn't ready to give up her young life to be a patient. With all of that being said, we are facing a long winter of travel for treatments and potential surgeries. She has an amazing team of UW Hospital doctors looking out for all of her health needs including immunotherapy. We are humbly asking for prayers and help to keep her life comfortably normal until she can go back to work. Please love each other wholeheartedly and unconditionally; life is too short and beautiful to not embrace.
