Help Simon get back on his feet!

An Appeal from the friends of Simon Clark

This is an appeal for help from friends of Simon Clark, who, with his partner Lindy was involved in a horrific car crash on the evening of October 17th 2019. The accident was so severe that Lindy died at the site of the accident, and Simon was left with life-threatening injuries.

Simon was treated at the roadside by specialist paramedics from the Great Western Air Ambulance team and was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. By the time Simon arrived at Southmead, he had already received two blood transfusions and had been put into an induced coma. His injuries were so severe that he wasn't expected to live. Simon’s mum, Angie, was awoken in the night by the police and driven at speed to the hospital. His brother John joined them a little later.

Simon's condition was precarious. His head was dislocated from his neck. His brain, already starved of oxygen for many minutes, was bruised and bleeding. The main artery connecting to Simon’s heart was torn. His diaphragm was ruptured and his lungs collapsed. His pelvis was smashed and his left hip and right wrist were broken. Simon’s condition remained critical for several weeks, with complications including two heart attacks and a number of potentially fatal blood clots. His treatment for the first month included life support and kidney dialysis as the hospital’s intensive care team gave his body chance to recover from the initial trauma.

Nearly three months later, Simon is continuing to astound the medical teams. It will be a long road but he is making a remarkable recovery. He doesn’t yet have full mobility in his arms and legs but his injuries are healing and it's looking ever more likely that he'll be able to get back on his feet in future. He’s working incredibly hard to achieve this.

Alongside the immediate effects of these extensive and debilitating life-changing injuries, Simon is also coming to terms with the broader implications of the crash. Simon has lost his life partner of 20 years. The business Simon and Lindy ran together is irretrievably ruined, and Simon is unlikely to be able to generate any income for the foreseeable future. The home he shared with Lindy is at risk, and this is extremely distressing to Simon. Thus we are seeking help.

Simon is a kind, considerate and loyal man who has always put others first. He hasn't asked for help; he doesn't want to, as he sees it, inconvenience people. This appeal is from his friends, who want to provide financial support until Simon is able to get back on his feet.

If you're able to make a donation, no matter the amount, it will be hugely appreciated. You don't have to identify yourself if you'd rather keep it private. The money raised will be used to pay monthly bills and mortgage while Simon works on his physical recovery, with the hope that when he comes out of hospital and is once again able to manage his own affairs, he will be able to reconstruct his life from the security of the home he loves. We can help by giving him a breathing space as he faces his future without Lindy, who is greatly missed not only by Simon, but by all of us who knew her.

On behalf of our friend Simon Clark, thank you.
