Hello community!
Welcome to my first ever crowdfund, as I raise money for the final chapter of CROWNING (also known as crowning in october).
CROWNING is an integration and homecoming ritual, and can also be described as immersive theater, dance ritual and interactive story telling. CROWNING follows four characters (personifications of forces of nature in cities)--GATITO (a street cat), SUGAR (a walking river), SLINGSHOT (a ghost child who used to be a forrest) and RUST (crumbling industry)--as they follow the water to find their way home.
It's participatory, wildly interdisciplinary and quirky, like me. :-D I believe in this work--both because it's my baby and my guide, and because I've seen it bring medicine to folks.
January 13, 2024 is the last chapter!
That day, we will be traversing one of my favorite places in New York--BAAD!, Bronx Academy of Art and Dance. Located in an old church in a cemetery in the Westchester area of the Boogie down, BAAD! is a historic place for Black and Brown and Queer and Women and Genderqueer artists.
I am asking for your support to bring this project--one that has been DEEPLY transformative for me personally--all the way home.
90% of funds will go to paying the brilliant queer BIPOC artists involved in this project a living wage. The rest will go to installation materials.
Though this will be an end, its not THE end. The next phase of CROWNING will be me developing a series of workshops so I can share this practice more widely--January 13th will also be a a launching pad for that.
Here you can listen to me talk about the project...
And here you can see some earlier versions...
Thank you for all your support so far!
