My nephew needs our help. Nick Smith and his wife, Kellie, live in Krum, Texas. He is a ten year Air Force Veteran who is 90% disabled. He was recently injured in a workplace incident.

Nick Smith and his wife Kellie live in Krum Texas, and he is a ten year Air Force Veteran who is 90% disabled. He was recently injured trying to prevent others from being injured of killed from a machine gun while protecting 4 kids.

Nick was medically separated from the Air Force after suffering multiple injuries. After his separation he continued to serve our country as a Federal Firefighter, EMT, and K9 handler and instructor. The physical toll this was taking forced Nick to step away and seek something closer to home and easier on his body. Nick started working as a medic and firearms specialist at a local gun range.

One day while at work, a machine gun started firing while it was unmanned. Nick was working with four young students next to the gun. Nick immediately, without regard for his own safety, stepped between them and the gun, pushing them out of the way and pushing the muzzle of the gun away. Although his quick and heroic actions saved the lives of the students, they put him into harms way, and he was shot three times in his right leg.

The injury to his leg is so severe that the surgeons are saying he will more than likely lose his leg with an above the knee amputation. He currently is unable to move under his own strength, and is in constant debilitating pain. Nick has lost his income, has mounting medical expenses that are not all covered, and have no sign of slowing. Nick and his family need help with the basics, and these funds will be used to help Nick and his wife meet their immediate obligations of their mortgage, utilities, as well as groceries.

Nick would never ask for help, and that is why I am trying to help his family out. Nick has spent his life serving others, and saving lives. Nick isn't just my nephew but a friend. I love him and will do everything I can to help him. You can see in the pictures that his spirit can't be broken. Will this be tough? Yes, but will he prevail? Yes. Please help and get the word out. Spreading this around is as important as donating.
