Help bring Bonnie home!

Greetings everyone,
I am Bonnie’s daughter Shannon.
As many of you know, Bonnie Christie has been courageously battling Glioblastoma, an aggressive and terminal brain cancer. In January 2024, she underwent surgery to remove a large tumor from the left side of her brain. While the procedure was successful, it left her with cognitive delays, speech difficulties, and physical impairments on her right side.
Bonnie, being the fighter she is, tackled radiation, chemotherapy, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy with determination, making incredible progress. However, this past January, a concerning cognitive decline led to the discovery of tumor regrowth at the original site—an unfortunate but common reality with Glioblastoma. Another surgery was performed to give her more time, and while it went well, her recovery has been more challenging this time.
Currently, Bonnie is in a rehabilitation facility in Guelph, working hard through intensive physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. Progress is happening, but it’s slow, and the reality is that bringing her home requires significant modifications to ensure her safety and mobility.
Bonnie and her husband, Dave, are facing not only the emotional toll of this battle but also immense financial strain. Dave has left his retirement job to be by Bonnie’s side every day, and she has had to step away from her beloved work in dog training and judging. Meanwhile, their home needs crucial accessibility upgrades, including:
• Two chair lifts to help Bonnie move between floors
• Three safety bars in the shower for stability
• A shower chair to allow for safe bathing
• A wheelchair for home use
The estimated cost of these essential modifications is $20,000, and we are reaching out to our community for support.
Bonnie has always been a strong, independent, and determined woman. Now, she needs our help to continue this fight from the comfort of her own home. Any contribution—big or small—will make a difference in helping Bonnie regain her independence and quality of life.
Thank you all for your kindness, generosity, and support. Let’s bring Bonnie home.
