If 2020/2021 couldn’t get any worse, our dear sweet angel, Luna, has started to show signs of IVDD.
IVDD (Intervertebral disk disease) is a spinal cord injury in dogs, but one that is very common in short legged breeds, i.e, our tiny toony baloony. This all started at the end of July when we noticed she was getting very lethargic and wasn’t acting like her spunky self. With her change in personality getting worse, we decided to take her to the vet. Since then, she has been on several medications and has seen some improvement, but when we ween her off she reverts back to very typical IVDD symptoms; pain and weakness in rear legs, muscle spasms in her neck and back, and very little appetite.
Flash forward to now, she has lost most of her muscle in her hind legs and she struggles to walk around, and at times, even stand. After speaking with a pet neurologist, he confirmed the next step is an MRI and surgery for her. IVDD is a very painful spinal disease and the only way to fix it long term is with surgery. We have been trying to make her as comfortable as possible but her rapid decline has us worried. This seems like the worst time for something like this to happen, with everyone’s finances being in jeopardy because of the impact of coronavirus, but that is why your help and contribution would mean the world to us and Luna. The MRI and surgery are both very expensive and the recovery is a long journey, but with ANY additional help, we hope to get her the best care she can get.
Again, we fully understand how 2020/2021 has affected everyone’s financial situations, if you can give one dollar, two dollars, 50 cents— anything at all, we and Luna would be so very thankful.
I’m trying not to cry while writing this as Luna is whimpering to get in a comfy position next to me on the bed. She needs this, and so do we.
Thank you for all your love and support at this time.
