Let Love Bloom

Thank you for taking the time to read this and contribute. I am beyond grateful. I want to share with you a little about the journey I have been on to spread love. Ever since I was a little girl, I've been motivated by love.  When I was old enough to volunteer at aged 13, I became a Candy-striper at a children's hospital in Atlanta. I loved visiting patients and cheering them up, reading them stories and helping out the nurses.  Spreading love and amplifying kindness has and always will be a motivating force I feel every day.

So much so that in the last ten years I have been on a most unexpected, wild journey of following my heart, letting love lead the way.  Ten years ago this month, in May 2010, I went by myself on a volunteer trip to Haiti. Earlier in the year, a catastrophic earthquake struck Haiti, the damage was devastating and hundreds of thousands of people lost their lives. I felt compelled to go volunteer and help.  Little did I know my sojourn to Haiti would be so life-changing. The moment I arrived, I was transformed.

Working alongside the Haitians, who were the most hard-working, trustworthy, loving, dedicated and passionate people, despite their circumstances, was mind-blowing. I began leading volunteer trips to Haiti,  ended up fundraising and building the Jacmel Children Center, a 12,000 square food children's home and school.  Pictured below are the adorable 27 Haitian children living at the center. I miss them daily!

Since then, I've led 22 trips to Haiti, bringing over 500 volunteers to join the most transformative trips. We volunteer with quite a few other organizations there besides the children's home and school I built, including the Art Creation Foundation For Children, a nonprofit organization that provides daily food and water, medical care and educational expenses and art instruction to the most impoverished children. Through that organization I met these adorable three boys, who I have known for over 10 years: Tony, Tiko and Herold, pictured below.

***These paper mâché hearts are made by these three boys. They go out into the street and collect trash, and turn them into these colorful and vibrant hearts! For those of you able to contribute over $100, I will send hearts to the first 30 people with a handwritten letter of thanks. That’s all I have left!

In between leading trips to Haiti, I became the Executive Director of the Do It For The Love Foundation, a wish granting organization created by musician Michael Franti and Sara Franti. Do It For The Love brings people living with life-threatening illnesses, children with severe challenges and wounded veterans to live concerts. Through the healing power of music, their goal is to inspire joy, hope and lasting celebratory memories in the face of severe illness or trauma. We make live music experiences, by any artist, available to those who need the healing power of music the most. I traveled around the country, getting to experience love in action granting wishes. This was a pivotal time for me to see that all that matters is love.

After 18 months of touring with Do It For The Love, I conceptualized and created a board game called Sparked to generate more inspiration, hope and connection in the world. From soulful conversations to juicy surprises and laugh-until-you-cry moments, you never know what will be Sparked. With 225 thought provoking cards and categories of Adventure, Happiness, Generosity, Gratitude, Inspiration, Passion, Opportunity  and Love, Sparked provides participants the opportunity to share stories and inspire each other in the most meaningful, memorable ways.

It's because of the game Sparked I created Collective Hearts. I realized there needed to be more visible love in the world, and thought "what's more visible than a big heart we can wear front and center, a tangible reminder that love is all that matters?" So in November 2017, I custom designed an oversized "heart of gold" necklace to do just that. Embody love.  Little did I know the first day I wore it I would be bombarded - everyone i walked by wanted one! It's been amazing to witness the journey the hearts have been on and the impactful ways they have inspired love in action.

Some pictures speak louder than words..

A pivotal moment for me was on July 22, 2018. I went to UCSF hospital to meet a man at the end stages of life. Jeff was dying of cancer, and had ordered 14 of my heart necklaces to give all the women in his life, to let them know that long after he was gone, his love was everlasting. His best friend and a dear friend of mine Melissa called me to order the necklaces for him. I was so touched, I asked if I could meet him.

Melissa and I surprised Jeff and had him close his eyes when we arrived. With his eyes closed, we decorated his hospital bed with the jewelry boxes and colorful paper mâché hearts! I then went and stood by the hospital door, and Melissa stood by the foot of his bed. When Jeff opened his eyes, he couldn't believe it. His bed was vibrantly alive with decorated hearts.

When Jeff found out I was in the room, he immediately called me over and held out his frail slender hand.  As we held hands, he said to me: "Lisa, at the end stages of your life, you realize all that matters is love. That is it. Love. And I want my life to be a Legacy of Love. I want to show everyone I know that my love is everlasting. For instance, my nurses who are taking such good care of me. They are often the most underpaid, undervalued overworked professionals. I want to give them your necklaces and share with them my visible love. That i see them, and I value them.

Needless to say, for the next 90 minutes, Jeff and I fell in a deep discussion about love and making a difference. I shared with Jeff that in the hospital lobby just before coming to his room, I had texted a women who was helping me with my website, and written was this copy: "Legacy of Love: must be included in the mission statement."

I wanted to create a Foundation called Legacy Of Love, and would he want to help me? He said yes.  Come to find out, after I left, he told his head nurse Issa (who he given a necklace to earlier in the night) to erase his message board. He told her to write: "Heaven can wait, I still have work to do." And wouldn't you know I came back to the hospital the following day because Jeff had conceptually designed two necklaces (hearts inside hearts to symbolize Motherly Love)  we ended up calling "Legacy Of Love". He gave it to his Mom Donna the following day. I wore his other design.

These are just some of the many experiences I've had in the past 10 years, doing my best to lead with love, inspire and uplift everyone, build community, and make a difference in the world.

Fueled by love, I have poured my heart and soul into my companies, and a heartfelt mission to amplify love on a daily basis. Right now though, with everything going on, my tank is empty. I am financially depleted and emotionally exhausted.

I know many are feeling this collective anguish and I wholeheartedly feel your pain. I applied for every federal and local grants and loan, have not yet received anything that can meet my short-term needs.

And so, I graciously and humbly ask for your support. It can be a donation of any size.  Any contribution will help.  This is challenging and humbling for me, and I appreciate your support more than words can convey.

A donation of any size is meaningful.  E
veryone who contributes, I'll send a guided meditation.

Any contribution over $100, I will send you a Haitian Heart, private Yoga Class or a Customized Meditation. Your choice.

Thank you so much..
