Medical Expenses

Think of yourself and your health right now. You can get up and go to work. You can probably drive your car and reach out to friends and family. You love working out at the gym, and then one day life puts a stop to all of that and turns your world as you know it, upside down. This is what happened to my mother.  On December 30, 2017, we found her collapsed in her home laying under a table.  We are not quite sure the order of what took place before we found her, but what we do know is that she became critically ill and developed meningitis. Doctors believe that she may have suffered a stroke due to the meningitis.  As a result of the infection, my mom has sustained a brain injury which has caused her to remain in a coma. We went through the initial shock and disbelief. We were prioritizing hospital visits in our schedules daily, until a week ago when the hospital informed me that insurance would no longer cover my mom’s hospital stay and she was being discharged the same day. I jumped into survival mode and quickly prepared a room and learned to be a nurse within hours.

I now care for my mom by rotating her every two hours, tending to her feeding, medication, and changing needs. We need to hire health care assistants to help us. Many family and friends have been reaching out to assist in any way they can and told us to share this information via GoFundMe to allow people to help.

We are figuring out our new normal. We have faith and know that God is leading us. We want to thank all of our family, friends, and new-found support, for helping us on this journey.
