Hi family, friends and supporters of the arts.
As many of you know, my name is Alex and I am an artist living in Sacramento, Ca. For the past 8 years I have been working professionally in the performing arts world here in Sacramento. I have worn many hats over the years: Actor, Dancer, Writer, Director, Costume Designer, Set Designer, Prop Designer, Production Assistant, Stage Manager, Builder, Consultant, Choreographer, and Educator.
I have been grateful to work with companies such as: TwoPoint4 Dance Theater, Capital Stage, Big Idea Theatre, Teatro Espejo, Sacramento Ballet, CLARA : Studios for the Performing Arts, Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera, B St Theater, Matriarchy Theater, Celebration Arts, and Sac State's Department of Theater and Dance.
Right now, I am currently working to expand my knowledge and creativity by participating in 2 multi-day intensives down in Los Angeles this upcoming January.
Ground Grooves Workshop is a 4-day (5 hrs/day) dance workshop that focuses on methodical and safe floorwork approach that emphasizes continuous and fluid floorwork for movers of all levels. This method is longevity-oriented, focused on building mindful, safe patterns to absorb impact with ease.
Frantic Assembly is a UK company that devises works based in the ethos of collaboration, of empowerment, of that constant desire to improve. They focus on telling stories in a voice we don't always hear and about finding talent in places we don't always look. This five-day residency offers the opportunity to delve into the Frantic Method and explore how they devise new work. We will be working towards a show which will be performed that Friday to an invited audience.
This is where you can help me. In lieu of holiday gifts, I am asking this year for financial assistance so I can pursue these workshops. While I have been so fortunate that Matriarchy Theatre is sponsoring a portion of the fees for the Frantic Assembly workshop, I am still looking to raise some additional funds for both workshops.
My goal is $3500.
This will be distributed in the following categories:
- Intensive Fees (~$450)
- Housing (~$1600)
- Travel (~$600)
- Food (~$350)
- Misc. things that may be needed to assist in the program like knee pads, kt tape, notebooks, textbooks, etc (~$300)
- Emergency (~$200)
If you are able to donate, I would greatly appreciate any amount you're able to give.
If you can't right now, I totally understand. Please consider sharing this page with your audiences.
Thank you!
Alex Martinez
