“The greatest gift of life is friendship, and I have received it.” Hubert H. Humphrey

In 2003 my husband, best friend, and soulmate of more than 50 years was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. At that time, he was 54 years old. One chamber of his heart simply no longer works, and we don’t know why. His heart ejection fraction was at 35; today it is very low between 10 and 15. What that means is that his heart is struggling to beat. We were hoping for improvement, we are praying for a miracle, and we are looking for any means by which we can help this special man who is the cherished patriarch of our family.

As you can imagine it is beyond difficult for us to imagine a world without him. He is our rock. His medicines keep him functioning, but his quality of life is being taken from him daily. His frustration with his inability for his mind to get his body to respond is increasing, but he is not without hope. He is a fighter. He has ALWAYS been the eternal optimist, one of the many wonderful things we love about him!

Not knowing what to do, but unwilling to simply give up and watch time take him from us too soon, and after much research, we are pursuing stem cell therapy. We have read testimonials about the amazing results, and we have spoken to several heart specialists. At this time, the FDA has not yet approved the procedure to be performed in the U.S. We have no doubt that it will be, but that will be too late for him. It also means that our insurance is not an option. However, it is successfully being performed in other countries and the Bahamas.

We are determined to do everything we can to save him; yet, we feel a sense of helplessness. What do you do when the love of your life is facing a battle that he can’t fight alone? We simply do not have the financial means to have this procedure done, and it is our only hope. A friend suggested Go Fund Me. They said that if people knew, they would help because he has done so much for so many. I am so proud to have shared my life with a man who has the biggest, most caring, giving heart of anyone I have ever met. To watch that heart fail, breaks mine, but to see a constant reassuring smile on his face reminding me that it will be okay, gives me the strength to put pride aside and humble myself to reach out to you and anyone who would be willing to read this. I will fight with him, and I very humbly ask for your help in doing that.

Pat is the most wonderful husband, father and grandfather. It has been said that the best thing to hold onto in life is each other. We are holding on as tight as we can. Thank you for taking the time to read this, thank you for passing this on to anyone that you feel has a heart to help, and thank you for your prayers. Please let us know if you have any questions.

With all our love and sincere gratitude,

Pat and Connie
