Help Jody Haas Fight Breast Cancer!

NEW STORY/NEW DETAILS -- PLEASE READ

My mother, Jody Haas, has had 10 surgeries in my lifetime. 10. It has always been one thing after another, especially this year. We have now found out that she has Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.  Breast Cancer. She's chosen to go with the team at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Woodlands led by the very experienced Dr Alan Hubbard. She wants to thank Tyra Bevers for her recommendation and patient talks through this decision  making process.

Mom is hopefully not going to need chemotherapy right now, but her oncologist (Dr. Paula Ryan) cannot rule that out until after her surgery. But  AT THIS TIME they do not feel or see through ultrasound any cancer cells in her lymph nodes. That's a good thing. She will need a sectional mastectomy to remove the mass in her breast, which is 2.7'cm (roughly a quarter) and growing.  After her pathology comes back from the labs and they see that she is clear from any cancer cells, she will have reconstructive surgery of both breasts so that they will be even ( so about a week to 10 days after her first surgery.) She calls that the "silver lining".   Thank you Dr. Gordley. She will then undergo several weeks of radiation (Dr. Sands), five days a week.  She will also be on cancer  preventative medication for 5 to 10 years.

What makes the situation more complex and stressful is that my stepdad, with whom she is separated , who is still supporting her because she is on disability, has lost his job. He has not gained full-time employment. He IS emotionally supportive and they are friends. He is trying and is an excellent I.T. guy and has a security camera installation business. They also own Legends Paintball in The Woodlands so he is  trying to get those businesses up and running more.  But there is no steady income at this time. So referring his business is a great way to help as well.

My mom receives $788 a month in disability and teaches voice lessons a few hours a week to supplement as much as she can, but she will not be able to teach as much during this time.  She is already fighting chronic pain in her low back, hips and is unstable in her upper back, neck and arms, which is why she can only teach a few hours a week, and NOW she has  another painful situation to deal with and has for several months.  She is in agonizing pain about 10-14 days out of the month with  what her doctors are concluding is endometriosis. She is going to have to have a HYSTERECTOMY as soon as she can when she's finished fighting this cancer. That will mean quite a bit more time off of work,  which not only will cost her money, but imagaine going through breast cancer and then right into a hysterectomy. Depressing!

This is an emergency situation. Jody Haas, my mother, has loved raising money and giving to other people. She's always been a strong lady, but this situation is too difficult to not ask for any help. If she doesn't raise enough money for all of these things, she could very well lose her house, car, or life. Please please please donate, share, spread the word. Help bring some hope and light to a hard situation. Hannah
