Sir’s Amputation Fund

Donation protected

In October of 2018 Chelsie adopted a neglected male Doberman from a south Florida rescue. He had been left outside for 2 years. He wasn’t house trained. He was terrified of bicycles and had minimal socialization skills with people and other dogs.

In Chelsie’s care, the Doberman renamed “Sir”, became house broken, visited beaches, dog parks, restaurants, and bars. He drew attention with his striking good-looks and sweet demeanor. Chelsie entered Sir into training where he learned basic obedience and began to become more desensitized to moving bicycles. He was not only a pet, Chelsie was able to rehabilitate him to where he became an emotional support animal. He accompanied her often to help her refocus her anxiety and was very attentive to her needs.

Everything was falling into place for Sir and Chelsie but in May of 2020 a bump appeared on Sir’s right back foot. Chelsie brought him to two veterinary clinics and he was given antibiotic medications while Chelsie was shown a bandaging protocol. The veterinarians believed that Sir had developed a lick granuloma, which is a treatable issue that is commonly seen in Doberman dogs.

As spring turned to summer Sir’s granuloma grew, despite behavioral modification and a cone to prevent him from licking the wound on his foot. Chelsie sought a 3rd opinion due to the deterioration of Sir’s foot and they were referred to an oncology clinic. The growth on the Sir’s foot has all the marks of cancer and makes it painful for him to walk and play.

Sir has been diagnosed with a basal cell tumor that is aggressive and rapidly growing. The only means of saving Sir’s quality of life is amputation of a portion of his foot and his toe. .

Throughout the course of the last 3 months Chelsie has exhausted her savings on veterinary medical cost, bandaging supplies, and diagnostic testing.

To save Sir’s life the veterinary specialist has estimate a surgical intervention will cost $3,014. Chelsie has personally spent $2,600 on Sir’s care this year alone and no longer had the means to cover the surgical cost due to being impacted by Covid with the loss of her job.

Please consider a donation towards Sir’s medical intervention, no amount is too small. Please help keep this family together. After all the effort, time, and money Chelsie has poured into turning Sir’s life around it would be a shame for them to lose each other when they were so close to total rehabilitation.
