36 Workouts in 36 Hours

Donation protected
Just two girls, attempting to do something crazy to raise awareness and funds for Lung and Kidney cancer in Memory of our beautiful mothers Kellie and Ellen.
As it says in the title, we will be attempting to complete a workout, every hour on the hour for 36 hours straight. That’s 36 workouts. Sounds insane..it is, but here’s a little about our why…

My name is Rachael Curtis and my mum passed away in July 2021 after being diagnosed with stage 5 kidney cancer in August 2020. Her diagnosis came as a complete shock to my family and occurred during the COVID19 outbreak which came with its own challenges. Unfortunately, her diagnosis was missed on several biopsy’s, CT & MRI scans and blood tests over a period of 12 years which was frustrating for a medical professional like myself to come to terms with.

Kidney Cancer is the 7th most commonly diagnosed cancer within Australia and despite this there isn’t a screening tool, foundation or charity specifically for kidney cancer. It is clear that further research and awareness is needed to assist with diagnosis and treatment of kidney cancer. Because of this I’m choosing to donate any funds raised towards kidney cancer research at the Centre for Kidney Disease Research located in Brisbane in hopes that this improves the awareness and diagnosis of kidney cancer within Australia.

Exercise has always been a big part of my life but helped me tremendously after my Mum’s passing. Which is why Liz and I have decided to do a workout based fundraiser in honour of our mum’s…Thirty-six in36‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️

My names Liz, and I lost my mum to Lung Cancer in 2015 just a short one year after her diagnosis. Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of Australians yet receives less government funding than majority of other cancers.
My mum was scared and ashamed to admit she had lung cancer in fear that people would say she deserved it. My mum spent the last year of her life feeling guilty and blaming herself for her diagnosis, and no one deserves to feel like that. My mothers smoking status was the least important thing about her. She was a single mother who raised three kids on a middle class wage by herself. She was our rock. Our world. Our pillar of love and support. She was everything to her children and her family.
My wish is to abolish the stigma associated with lung cancer and to raise some awareness about the devastating effects this stigma can cause cancer suffers and their families. I also hope to raise much needed research funds to help develop early detection and screening tools, before it is too late.

For every $10 you donate, you will receive an entry to win a hamper, which will be drawn after hour 36, November 12th at 7pm.

Thank you so much for your support. It truely, means a lot.
