In December 2025, Mike was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), an aggressive form of brain cancer. In an instant, life changed for Mike, his wife Sarah, and their two children.

Since his diagnosis, Mike has undergone brain surgery and continued treatment with his neuro-oncology team at Georgetown and Duke. At the same time, Mike and Sarah have been determined to pursue every reasonable opportunity that could give him an additional advantage in this fight.

One of those opportunities brought them to Tübingen, Germany, for a personalized cancer vaccine through CeGaT. The vaccine was developed specifically for Mike based on the characteristics of his tumor, and he has now begun the series of trips to Germany required for treatment.

The response from our family, friends, coworkers, and community has been extraordinary. More than 450 people have already contributed to Mike’s GoFundMe, and that support is what helped make it possible for Mike and Sarah to pursue this treatment. We cannot adequately express how grateful we are.

But Mike’s fight is far from over.

The CeGaT treatment alone costs approximately $90,000, and the full course of treatment requires repeated travel to Germany. In addition, Mike and Sarah continue to face significant expenses associated with his care, including:

• Personalized CeGaT vaccine treatment

• Repeated airfare and travel to Germany for treatment

• Hotels and local transportation while in Germany

• Travel and lodging for specialist appointments in the United States

• Other medical expenses not covered by insurance

• Childcare and other expenses created by treatment and travel

Our $200,000 goal is intended to help Mike and Sarah manage the financial impact of this entire fight, not simply the cost of the vaccine itself.

Mike is a husband, a dad, a son, a brother, a friend, and a colleague to so many people who care deeply about him. Anyone who knows Mike also knows how independent he is. He and Sarah would never be comfortable asking for this kind of help themselves, which is why we are continuing to ask on their behalf.

The goal is to allow Mike and Sarah to put as much of their energy as possible toward Mike’s treatment and their family instead of worrying about the enormous financial burden that comes with pursuing every available option.
