Hi everyone. I’m so embarrassed to be making a GoFundMe but Jax’s emergency vet bills are starting to exceed what my pet insurance covers for the year. The vet remains optimistic that he will pull through as he is making baby steps of improvement but needs more time in the hospital or at home with his feeding tube still in.
The full story:
Jax was put on an antibiotic on 1/18 and became sick with loss of appetite, diarrhea, and vomiting. After 5 days of limited food and water intake, he began outpatient vet interventions and testing. Jax passed all his tests with flying colors so we were stumped as to what was making him sick. We attempted interventions 3x before the vet suggested hospitalization. At VCA, they discovered through an ultrasound that he has pancreatitis and gall stones. He has been in the hospital receiving intensive interventions, including a feeding tube, since Sunday 1/30. While in the hospital he has made baby steps. First, he was continuing to vomit. Slowly he stopped vomiting and began interacting with his food to “bury” it. Then, he began smelling food. Finally, today he ate 4 pieces of chicken and licked 2 additional pieces! The vet thinks he is trending in the right direction but has a stubborn case of pancreatitis that may take many days of intensive intervention to heal.
Unfortunately, my pet insurance has a limit of $5000 annual coverage and we have already exceeded that. They are expecting him to stay in the hospital for at least another 2 days. At that point, I can consider him staying longer or taking him home and performing his tube feedings myself.
Again, I am so embarrassed to ask for help but my out of pocket costs will likely exceed $3,000 at this point and possibly more if he needs to stay in the hospital longer. Any little bit you can give would be an amazing gift for both us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
