35th Bday Wish: Free my Brother

Every year I use my birthday to bring awareness to an issue I care about.  This year my focus is on obtaining legal counsel to bring my brother Ceari home. The total cost of the attorney’s services is 26k, we are attempting to raise the additional 23k. We have been fighting for my brother’s freedom for 6 years. He was over sentenced (27 years) for his alleged participation in an event that took place when he was 19. He’s now 25 and will have to serve another 9 years before he’s eligible for parole. He has served his  base time and is now serving excessive enhancement time. He was originally provided subpar representation by the state of California-if he’d had adequate legal counsel, we believe he’d be home by now.

 

My brother wants to be home to be able to positively contribute to society. He has a loving fiancé, a big family who cherish him and a job and home waiting for him.

 

Though I desperately want my brother home, my hope is also that his case establishes precedent so no one else experiences this legal catastrophe.

 

All funds raised will go directly to his attorney. We are also launching a community campaign focused on letter writing and highlighting my brother’s humanity.
