Mary is a real inspiration to us all, and is a librarian in Papua New Guinea whose job is to bring literacy to PNG's most remote schools. She is passionate about knowledge and information being the key to development for PNG, and making a difference in her country. She is in Australia studying on an Australian Leadership Award scholarship, and will be returning to PNG on graduating this semester.
Mary needs a rare form of surgery, which is quite expensive. There is a pheochromocytoma on her adrenal glad, and doctors seem confident that if they can remove it in Australia, her recovery will be quick.
Here is Mary's message:
I have been sick last year and towards the end of semester 2 I went for a number of CT scans. It was when the doctor found out I had a growth of 4.8cm (5cm) on my left adrenal gland to my left kidney. The growth is called PHEOCHROMOCYTOMA and needs to be removed.
I will be admitted to St Andrews war memorial hospital on the 21st of this month (June) and surgery will take place on 26. My family are trying their best to help me with funding for this surgery. I would very much need your assistance in fund raising to help support my family and I too in paying my medical bills. My health cover will take care of my in hospital but not the surgeon, his assistant, anaesthetist and other related costs (scans and medications etc).
It is my prayer that God will bless you and those who support me to go through this.
Please help us to support Mary in her time of need.
