Kilo's Emergency Care
Donation protected
Dogs are not pets. They are your family.
Allen has had Kilo since he was a wee pup. Their bond is deep. At 7 years of age, Kilo has not had one single health issue, until now.
In the past week and a half, we noticed Kilo's lack of interest in his food. He began vomiting after meals (that he would eat), his bowels were soft, he couldn't hold his bowel movements to the walk outside, and his urine was dark. On Monday 1/18/2016, we took him to the vet clinic.
After his exam, he was administered shots to eliminate his nausea and was given fluids to re-hydrate him. We monitored him for 24 hours at home to see if the shots and fluids helped him and therefore was just a bug. He still was not eating but his stools got better. After the first 24 hours, the vet suggested we give him chicken and rice, which he devoured. However, the next morning, Thursday 1/21/2016, he would not eat it. He barely drank water and began to turn yellow.
The vet ran preliminary blood work yesterday afternoon and found his levels of bilirubin (brownish/yellowish substance found in bile) to be at 22%, when it should be less than .5%. His results also show anemia. We were then referred to the Animal Speciality Group (ASG) in Los Angeles, CA for Kilo's emergency care.
As I write this, ASG has called us twice through the night to update us on our little boy. The vet has had to play detective work since it could be a number of things, (all acroynms I am forgetting.) Foremost, his immune system is attacking whats left of his healthy red blood cells and his platlet count is at 14. He's currently receiving a blood transfusion to help offset this.
Allen and I need your help. We need help for Kilo and his emergency costs. It's very difficult to ask for this but its been a heartwenching week to watch Kilo's health decline in a matter of hours. If you've ever met Kilo, you'll think he's the barkiest dog you've ever met. He might have even blew out an eardrum for you. But Kilo's a gentle soul, with a unique personality. If you can spare anything, we'll be forever grateful. Please help bring home our baby Kilo.
