We are grateful to so many people in our community who have asked how they can help our brother, Mark Higbee and his family, after his most recent accident. If you are looking for a way to help, please consider donating to this family, as they have been through so very much these past few years.
This week, Mark was in his second awful accident in the past five years. While helping our father recover a loose steer, the steer hit him causing his body to be thrown from his his four-wheeler. The four-wheeler then rolled down a hill on top of him, crushing Mark's face and head. He suffered a severe concussion, two separate brain bleeds and numerous skull fractures - including both his orbital and temporal bones.
Our heroic local first responders arrived in time to transport Mark to UMC Hospital, where he is now being treated in the Intensive Care Unit and at the last update - his vitals have stabilized.
This is not the first hardship Mark and his family have endured. Five years ago, this summer, he was hit by a semi-truck on the highway on his way home from work. He was life-flighted to UMC and stayed there in a medically induced coma for a month and had to re-learn to walk. He still suffers daily from the pain of his old injuries and unfortunately, they are still trying to recover financially from that first life altering accident. This second accident is too much for their family to bear alone and so we have made the decision to launch this GoFundMe to help this family keep their heads above water.
If you know this family, you know they are the salt of the earth. Mark would do anything for anyone. Anything you donate will be used to help to alleviate the heavy financial burden they face and will continue to face over the next few months. Anything helps. If you are unable to give, please share! And from all of us, we thank you for your contribution and for taking the time to read his story.
