Hi our names are Edward and Iva Honyestewa and we come from the Hopi mesas; the northeastern part of Arizona. I (Iva) am sun clan from the village of Songoopavi. Edward is coyote clan from the village of Hotevilla and was raised at lower Moencopi village.
Our project is to build the Iskasokpu Hopi Mini- Museum.
The purpose of this project is to share with our children and our visitors, Hopi art, history and culture and to keep our local children aware of who they are and where we came from.
We just poured our foundation of 62' x 40'. We are doing 10 phases of this project:
phase 1- Foundation 6-Interior finish
phase 2- Floor Slab 7- Set up of Display cases
phase 3- Block walls 8- Set up of video presentations
phase 4- Roofing 9-Organizational/final set up
phase 5- Exterior stucco 10- Grand opening
Presently we manage the Iskasokpu Gallery (the burping coyote). The building will be attached to the existing building on the north side.
We heard about crowd funding from a friend, we decide to give crowd funding a try, because bank loans are too difficult and expensive. Currently we are using personal funds to do this project.
We need help to purchase blocks, cement, roofing materials, show cases, and to pay for printing expenses for the museum. Any amount of donations will be greatly appreciated. We look forward to hearing from you and hope you will be a part of our endeavors.
We invite you to come visit our Hopi Nation.
Kwakway, Askwali (Thank you).
