Hi, my name is Martin Feeney and every year for the past few years I take part in fundraising for any local Organisations / Hospitals / Mental Health Services & Individuals who need funding for any health-related issues.

This year I am going to climb Knocknarea 35 times in 28 days (First 21 days I will climb up and down once, the final 7 days I will do a double climb, one straight after the other) for Northwest STOP Suicide Prevention starting Saturday 17th of October 2026 with the final climbs on Friday the 13th November 2026.

Northwest STOP is a crucial lifesaving service and after being involved in a fundraiser 2 years ago on their behalf I learned what they do and its heartbreaking to have found out some of the individuals ringing seeking help are as young as 9 years old.

North West STOP don’t receive any state funding and rely totally on fundraising, donations and corporate donations to fund their services. They are based in Drumkeeran, Co.Leitrim.

Who are Northwest STOP Suicide Prevention?

They are a local charity based in the Northwest who provide FREE COUNSELLING with QUALIFIED COUNSELLORS with NO WAITING LISTS to those who are in distress or feeling suicidal and those who have been bereaved by suicide. They cover counties Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim, Donegal, West Cavan, Longford, and North Mayo. People who phone STOP seeking help are seen by a member of their counselling team within in most cases 48 hours

The demand on North West STOP services goes up year on year. For example :

2019-2020 the cost of counselling services provided by North West STOP was €20,655.00

2022-2023 the cost of counselling services was €92,645.00

Last year (2025) North West STOP provided 3807 hours of counselling to 513 clients at a cost of just over €195,000.00.

Quick statistics on users of the services for the first 6 months of this year (2026):

25 users are aged under 11

22 users are between 12 - 17 years old

31 users are between 18-35 years old

28 users are between 36 - 64 years old

5 users are 65 or over years old

Of the above 60% are females and 40% are male.
