Our son Hayden was born with a rare heart defect and is currently awaiting another surgery to correct his heart. He had a surgery last April at 3 months old, just one month after they found out he has L-TGA with an Epstein Anomaly of the tricuspid valve and he was already in heart failure. They placed a band on his artery in preparation for a much larger surgery to correct his heart at about 1 year of age. He since has had multiple procedures and hospital stays due to his heart complications. Hayden just turned 1 right before Christmas and we have since been notified that the surgeons would like to move forward immediately with his surgery to correct his heart.
The double switch procedure that will be performed is huge, one of the largest being performed in the cardiovascular unit and will mean Hayden will have a lengthy recovery. Because of his condition his team of doctors and surgeons are hours away from our family's home. This means my husband, Kyle, often can't stay or even visit because it would all be unpaid for his job. So it usually involves me staying alone at the hospital with him while trying to coordinate meals, schooling and care for our children back at home.
We were given about a month to make arrangements for our family for this surgery. We have until February 5th to make all arrangements, including all his pre op doctor visits. Although, we have been trying to arrange meals, prepare schooling, and make arrangements for our children back home, we will still miss out on income because it will all be unpaid if Kyle misses work.
We are asking for donations to help so Kyle can take off of work to attend surgery and stay some during Hayden's recovery. Donations will also help with meals, our necessities while away and possibly a hotel to stay in so we will not have to sleep on public recliners in the hospital until he's moved to a step down unit.
Anything helps, even a prayer! Thank you!
