Health Care expenses for Alicia Cole

Donation protected

Hello Friends, Many of you have known that one of my very best friends, Alicia Cole, has been hospitalized since November 28th with a serious and potentially life threatening Sepsis and staph infection. You may also know that having her go through this is unfathomable because 10 years ago she miraculously survived various other strains of MRSA as well as the deadly necrotizing faciitis. (MRSA is resistant to antibiotics and extremely hard to stop which is why most patients don't survive it. She was told one night by her Dr., preparing for one of 6 debridement surgeries, that there was a good chance she would lose her left leg. Her family was advised on a few occasions to call the Pastor & family to give final prayers and prepare for the worst. It was devastating. She went in for a "routine" fibroid surgery with a hospital stay of 3 days and ended up in ICU for two months! Following that was years of aftercare, painful wound management, home health nightmares, shortages of critical supplies, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and physical therapy that STILL CONTINUES to this day to help strengthen the fragile abdominal tissue. You cannot imagine the toll this took on Alicia and her family. She vowed to God while laying there about to go in for surgery #4, that if He would spare her life, she would use hers to make sure no one else had to endure this experience. Alicia did just that. She spent every day since then researching hospital-acquired infections and how to combat them. She started a non-profit along with her parents Ron & Betty Cole, PatientSafetyASAP, and has toured the country speaking to health care providers and Patient Safety advocates about best practices to avoid unnecessary infections. She Co-Sponsored a bill to hold hospitals accountable for reporting infection rates, SB 158, and has fervently supported the enactment of Niles Law. Alicia has fulfilled her promise to God by doing the work that saves lives. And now she's back on the same journey to healing again. Wound care, specially trained nurses, supplies and resources are needed again but this time insurance won't cover everything. This fund is to help fill in the gaps that Insurance won't. the costs are mounting daily with no end in sight yet. Please help in any way you can to alleviate the stress of medical debt on Alicia so she can focus on healing and getting back to herself again! The world needs her healthy and strong. All amounts are appreciated! Thank You!
