Five months ago, after relocating to Brooklyn due to losing my home in a fire, my fur baby, Phoenix, jumped out of our window. He had never done anything like this before, and my heart broke instantly. For months, I feared I would never see him again.

Phoenix isn’t just a pet—he’s been my best friend through heartbreak, loss, and some of the hardest times of my life. In the months since, I’ve seen him occasionally near my neighborhood. I’ve tried to safely bring him home, but without the proper resources, it hasn’t been possible. Each encounter is bittersweet—so close, yet so far.
