As many of you know by now, on Saturday November 21st, Cindy Legere was admitted to the Emergency Room with what she thought was a hernia. That day she was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer which had already spread to her liver. On subsequent visits to the Oncologist, she found out it was an extremely rare and little known form of stage 4 pancreatic cancer called Acinar Cell Carcinoma. Due to the rarity, there is no consensus on the efficacy of treatment options available. Cindy's Oncologist has suggested that chemotherapy could give her another year of life. Her Oncological surgeon is, however, more optimistic and hopes that the chemotherapy will shrink the tumor (currently the size of a football) to a point which it can be operated on and removed, giving her 3-5 years.
On Wednesday, December 9th Cindy started her first round of chemo. She is prepared to fight this with everything she has, as anyone who knows her would have expected. She is ready to throw her energy - body and soul - into this, but she is going to need a little bit of help. As we enter into the new year, she will have many medical expenses that are not covered by insurance, high prescription drug costs, as well as assuring Gus (12 years old) has the tools he needs to succeed in the many years to come. This includes paying off the small mortgage remaining on the farmhouse in Cornish.
The girls (Alex, Casey, and Adrienne) have decided and arranged for the estate to go into a trust in Gus' name. Any funds that remain after Cindy's medical bills have been covered, will be transferred directly to him when he reaches adulthood.
For those of you who may not know the family so well, Cindy is a mother of four: Alex (27), Casey (25), Adrienne (24), and of course Gus (12). Cindy is a single mother to Gus who spends the majority of his time with her in Cornish. She is an artist who has spent the last 15 months refurbishing and remodeling her 1850's farmhouse, while continuing to support herself and Gus by selling her glass art and jewelry. Unfortunately, given the advanced nature of this cancer and due to chronic nausea and debilitating pain, she has been unable to work in her in-home studio.
Any contribution that you can provide would mean the world to Cindy and her family. We are all doing everything we can to support her as she enters into this battle, and truly appreciate all the love that has been and continues to be shared for her and her family.
