Jordyn’s Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
Last summer my family received heartbreaking news that completely turned our world upside down. July 2019 was when we discovered that our younger sister, Jordyn, was diagnosed with Metastasized Melanoma at 26 years old. Shortly thereafter, we learned that the cancer spread to various parts of her body including her lymph nodes, lungs, and brain.
As any family would in this type of situation, we took the news of Jordyn’s cancer extremely hard. Our initial emotions were a range of overwhelming sadness and fear of what was to come, as well as anger and confusion. The one thing we all agreed on was that we were going to bound together along-side Jordyn, and fight this battle fiercely until she beats this disease!
After receiving the diagnosis, Jordyn soon started treatment at Sloan and Kettering Hospital which is known for their high success rate with cancer patients. She quickly began chemotherapy, and although the doctor explained the severity of the situation, we felt optimistic and hopeful.
A few months into the treatment Jordyn faced a severe setback, experiencing multiple, uncontrollable seizures in a short period of time. Jordyn was rushed to the hospital and stayed for several days. It was inevitable that something was triggering the seizures, and when the MRI results came back, we were hit with more unsettling news. The doctors discovered that the cancer had spread, and tumors developed throughout her brain. Again, fearful but still optimistic, Jordyn began radiation treatment to hopefully shrink the tumors.
After a year of watching our sister fight and battle this destructive disease, we finally received good news. Jordyn’s neurologists called to let her know that the cancer in her brain was no longer active. We all felt a slight weight lift off our shoulders and prayed that this was the light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately, the positive news was short lived, as less than a month later we learned that the cancer in her brain was back and the tumors were growing.
Jordyn was 26 when she was diagnosed with cancer. Since then she has experienced invasive treatment, sickness, pain, and a scary unknowing of what’s to come. The once extremely positive girl that always found the best in every situation has lost a little bit of herself throughout this process. Before cancer Jordyn lived a normal, happy life like any young girl in her 20’s. She worked as a hair stylist while also pursuing college. She loved fitness, cooking, taking her dog Chip to the beach, and living a healthy life. If you ask anyone who knows Jordyn, they would most likely bring up her sense of humor because she is always making everyone around her laugh.
Throughout this process, Jordyn shied away from sharing her story on social media, never wanting sympathy or extra attention. With the most recent updates on her health, she finally allowed us to share her story and to also reach out for help and support during what’s been not only an emotional roller coaster but also a huge financial burden.
Please donate to help Jordyn through this extremely difficult time. Your donation will go towards medical bills, prescriptions, supplies, travel expenses to her doctor appointments in NYC, and any unforeseen expenses such as surgeries. Jordyn could also use your prayers and well wishes to help keep her positive during these trying times.
Thank you for reading Jordyn’s story and supporting our favorite girl!
With love,
Jessie, Jenna, & Jamie
