Help a helper: Lauren De Vine
Donation protected
On December 20th, my dear friend Lauren De Vine found out that she had been robbed. Her storage unit had been broken into and upended. Her stored life- her only life as she exists out on the road- was turned into a pile of trash. That space had held all of her everything: family heirlooms, clothing, kitchen supplies from knives to flatware and her professional tools which directly support her business, outdoor gear that helps her to see the world, artwork, photos, and letters from her childhood... and any and all technology that was not on her at the time. All of these things were now gone. It was her 36th birthday.
Lauren is a helper. Lauren is the friend who drove to Standing Rock with a van full of supplies to add her voice to those trying to protect the land. Lauren is the friend who shined a bright light on the devastation that took place in Rockport, Texas after the Hurricane and organized organic produce shipments and supplies to be allocated to folks who had lost their homes and were living in tents. Lauren does those things always. She lives and works on the road while also engaging in community work wherever she goes. She gives her voice and her time to causes where the rest of us may not be able to be present. She has shown us how to be helpers by engaging the people in her life and offering them ways to show up in local and national crisis. Lauren removes our feeling of helplessness and offers us direction because her feet are on the ground and her attention is present. Lauren is one of the first people I contacted after I was robbed. Without hesitation, she offered her home, her clothes, and her resources to make sure I felt safe and cared for. It's time to help the helper.
It has been 4 months since Lauren was robbed and I have watched my friend quietly walk through the pain of being violated, continue to support her community and be the embodiment of joy that we know her to be.
Her happiness and joy barely seemed to have skipped a beat in an outward sense. But underneath it all, in this hard time, I have watched my friend go without. I've watched her turn down work due to lack of resources and I have watched her struggle with projects simply because her technology is in desperate need of an upgrade. How do you justify buying a new laptop for work when the first 36 years of your life have been stolen from you. You don't. You end up going without.
I think it is time for a change. That's where you come in.
I am asking you to partner with me in helping Lauren get back on her feet with a strong foundation. I am asking because my friend had all of her memories stolen from her and needs to get back to creating stories again. The money we collect will go towards purchasing items that will foster Lauren's creative and philanthropic work.
We can't replace your artwork or family heirlooms but we can support your creative endeavors by helping you get back up and running.
I am specifically collecting money for:
Laptop + accessories
iPhone
Camera
Website design + curation
Credit card square swipe + charging dock
Thank you!
