Hello, Family and Friends:

I am writing this on behalf of my Mommy and as I choke back tears. We’re a prideful and private bunch so this is a little difficult to write. My Mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 Invasive Lobular Carcinoma in April of this year. Mom has been going to annual mammograms since the age of 37, she is 45 now. 12 months prior, she was “clear”. It came to the family as a shock as we have no family history and no reason for concerns, so we thought. Not only did she test positive, but the cancer spread from her breast to her lymph nodes under her arm. Mom also tested positive to a genetic mutation known as PALB2. There is still much debate amongst medical professionals on this mutation, with a 50/50 split on whether there’s an increased risk of cancer. To say it has been the most challenging year of our lives, is an understatement. But we are getting through and none of this would have been possible without the love and support of our family. They have been our saving grace.

To date, Mom has had a double mastectomy with immediate reconstructive surgery, currently undergoing chemotherapy, radiation therapy to follow, then hormone therapy and lastly another surgery. This is expected to continue through early next year. We would like to think that she is through the worst part of her journey, but we still have a way to go. She remains upbeat and positive and is doing the best she can.

With medical bills constant, and as a single mother of 3, expenses are rising. We are hoping that with the help of our family and friends, we can ease some of the burden my Mom is currently carrying. We wholeheartedly appreciate anything you can give, anything will help. For those that are unable to donate, we sure do appreciate your continued support and prayers. We love you all, dearly!
