Help Save Ash From Parvo!

It has been a scary few days since I adopted Ash on Wednesday (4/7). Ash is a playful, adorable, and smart Maltipoo. From the first day I brought him home, he was already responding to his new name and had a few successes with potty training. But starting the second day (4/8), his stool was soft and by dinner time, he begins to vomit and have diarrhea. I thought it was normal for a puppy to show those symptoms due to the stress from rehoming but still wanted to take him to the vet just to make sure he was okay.

When I took Ash to the vet early morning the next day (4/9), the vet informed me that not only was Ash tested as "strong positive" for Parvo, but he is also anemic, showing only 19% red blood cell count. The vet recommended doing blood transfusion, which he estimated to cost at least $2000 to $3000. I was shocked to hear all the numbers and estimates given to me after just one day with Ash, and now the responsibility to save his life lies on my shoulder. I tried to contact the breeder, but he is now nowhere to be found after I informed him of the situation. The doctor also recommended Ash to go to a 24hr care, but each day spent at the hospital is estimated to come out to at least $3000. I consulted with some family and friends and decided to closely monitor him myself overnight to save on the cost, and fortunately, he was able to make it through the first night.

4/10/21 Update
Dropped him off at the vet again for the day, but the doctor informed me that Ash's fecal test showed positive for Giardia and hookworms. There have been many ups and downs, and the doctor did say Ash may get worse before he gets better, but I'm hopeful that he'll recover.

I paid a $900 adoption fee for Ash, the first day services provided by the hospital came out to $949.30, and the second day estimated to be $757.57, but this might increase since he now has tested positive for hookworms and Giardia. The treatment plan is to bring him back to the hospital every day during the day, and I'll continue to monitor him closely during the night to save on cost, but if Ash does get worse, he may need to stay 24hr ER.

Costs continue to climb day by day and total costs could total over $10,000. Ash is a fighter but is still fighting the disease. With proper care, we hope that his chances of survival will remain high.

I am so grateful for having the support I have from family, friends as well as many passionate Maltipoo owners that I met from Facebook. I couldn't have done this alone and I am extremely thankful for everyone's compassion and generosity.

If you want to contribute to Ash's continued treatment please donate in any way you can, or share Ash’s story.

Love,
Sylvia
