Believe in Ben

Donation protected
First, thank you for the thoughts, prayers, visits and messages of support. It has been very reassuring and we appreciate it very, very much.

The back story:
Sometime Monday night Ben fell. The details are piecemeal, but it appears that he was walking his dog, which involved going down a long set of outdoor stairs, kind of like a wooden fire escape with landings. He slipped on ice (?) slid/fell down the first flight of stairs, and basically launched himself off the first landing, under the railing and out into the dark. He landed on concrete approximately 12-14 feet below.

His injuries include several broken ribs, a fractured scapula, and a punctured lung, all on his left side. He also broke one or more bones in his right hand and wrist. He suffered "significant" head injuries - several fractures of the cranium, and some of the bone structure around his eyes (orbitals?). He laid there, unconscious, for some period of time, perhaps 4 hours, until discovered by a neighbor. Had it not been for his dog, Sadie, he most probably would not have been noticed.

Ben is at WakeMed Neuro ICU, where he has been living on a knife's edge, with his (very excellent) team of nurses and doctors working very hard to balance his blood pressure and the pressure on his brain.

He has been on a respirator and in a medically-induced coma, with eight separate pumps delivering meds. He is in relatively stable condition, but it doesn't take much to upset the balance. He is under constant surveillance in addition to all sorts of monitors (ICP, vitals, etc.). It is one helluva operation and a sight to behold.

While we don’t know the realities of cost, nor are we concerned about that at the moment.  Any contributions to Believe in Ben will go towards any Medical expenses such as his deductible, and any out of pocket expenses that are to come from his intensive treatment and round the clock care.

Your support means everything to Ben and he will be amazed to see the team that is rooting for him and coming together.
