For Margo Perkins: Paving the Road to Healing, one Brick at a Time

Whether you know Margo Perkins as mother, sister, cousin, aunt, eldress, evangelist or friend, you know her as one who has spent her life sowing into the lives of others. In our lives, we come across many people; those that stand out are the builders. Builders are those who build you up with words of encouragement, deeds of hope and gestures of love. Margo Perkins is one such person. Countless people who have been blessed to cross paths with Margo can attest that she’s either fed you, clothed you, spoke an encouraging word into your life or just made you smile and laugh to the point you where knew you could go on a little further regardless of your circumstances.

Family and friends, it is now our turn to be builders for Margo. As many of you know, Margo has recently been diagnosed with a rare blood cancer called multiple myeloma. Multiple myeloma is a malignancy that causes cancer cells to accumulate in the bone marrow. These cancer cells crowd out the normal cells in the bone marrow and produce abnormal proteins that can lead to various problems. Because the cancer cells crowd the bone marrow, it can cause cancer tumor-like lesions in the bones that can result in severe pain and weakness. Other symptoms that people with this cancer experience are weight loss, weakness, debilitating fatigue, poor appetite and nausea. They are also at risk for recurring illnesses, because their bone marrow can’t make the healthy cells to fight off infections.

Margo’s story began with severe pain in her chest. She was found to have a bone tumor in her rib that was later diagnosed by biopsy as a plasma cell tumor. It hurt her to breathe, let alone carryout day-to-day activities. Over the course of a few weeks, her life changed drastically. After extensive testing in Grand Rapids at the Cancer and Hematology Centers of West Michigan, the diagnosis of multiple myeloma was made. Margo has undergone biopsies, bone scans, and countless blood and urine tests. Margo has begun her chemotherapy treatments in Grand Rapids. Thank God that the diagnosis was made, because now believers know what exactly how to pray. This cancer can be treated but it will be a long road to healing and wholeness. Those of us who love her and whose lives have been touched by her in some way, can help pave her road to healing, one brick at a time.

How can we help? For many years Margo has worked for a nonprofit organization. Unfortunately, she is without disability benefits. She started this journey with very limited health care benefits and the multiple tests and doctor visits have significantly depleted her resources. She has already racked up a large volume of medical bills and due to the toll the cancer has taken on her body she is currently unable to work. Family has extended their resources, but more help is needed. Family and friends please support Margo’s healing by donating. We ask that you donate money to this GoFundMe account and donate your prayers for healing, standing with her in faith that God will bring her to total wellness. The funds will help with her twice-weekly trips to Grand Rapids for chemotherapy, medications, and day-to-day expenses of living while in treatment. Whatever you can give is greatly appreciated. We pray that God will bless you for your sacrifice and love.

I you would feel more comfortable sending donations by mail you can them to 3305 Timber Dr. Lansing Mi
