On April 24th at about 12:30pm my husband Omar was in a terrible motorcycle accident on Old Keene Mill Rd while on the way to the gym. A car was attempting to make a left turn on to Old Keene Mill out of the Rolley Valley Shopping Center and Omar was coming straight on Old Keene Mill. When I received a call from the paramedic that he was involved in an accident and to meet them at INOVA Fairfax, my whole stomach dropped. It was one of the worst moments of my life. Omar and I are high school sweethearts. We both went to West Springfield. If you know us at all, you know how inseparable we are. We opened a business called Got Odd Jobs in 2019 and we absolutely love working together. We are very present on the jobs and even do many of the jobs together. We love to serve our community and have made such amazing connections with so many of our customers who have turned into dear friends. We welcomed our first child, Scarlett, into the world in April 2020. Ever since then it’s been the 3 of us together on the road running our company, doing jobs - together! I tell you this to paint a picture of how much this accident has changed our lives. Omar suffered very serious injuries. He was in the ICU a for a week where he underwent two major surgeries to repair a shattered pelvis and hip fractures as well as a broken wrist. He also suffered a fracture of the knee and multiple broken toes. He has a lot of healing to do and will be out of work for the months to come. It takes bones 6 weeks on average to heal so until then he will be bedridden. Then the physical therapy journey begins. Omar is the not only the backbone of our family but he is the backbone of our business. He worked every single day alongside our employees and it is a significant hit to our business now that he won’t be able to work for some time. I am working hard to make sure the business stays on track in his absence because our business is like our baby, we worked so hard to build it and it means so much to us. On top of caring for my husband during his recovery, running a business and taking care of our one year old daughter, I am also 27 weeks pregnant with baby #2, another little girl, due in August.
Put simply, we are a young family who needs help. We are going to be faced with staggering medical expenses in combination with loss of income all right before welcoming a new baby into this world. Any donation amount would be so greatly appreciated and go a long way to help us in focusing on his recovery and lessen the financial burden during this challenging time. Again, we can’t thank everyone enough for all of the support and well wishes and if you know Omar, you know he will be doing everything he can to get back at it as fast as possible - and with me by his side pushing him along, he won’t have a choice ;-). Thank you again!
