Hunter's recovery

For those that have met Hunter, you may know how much of a loving and sweet boy he is. If he’s ever howled or barked at you, it’s just his way of saying hello. Hunter is always cheerful, playful, and full of life. He never says no to kisses, a game of fetch, or his favorite bone. Unfortunately, Hunter's physical health in the last week has been declining. Last Tuesday, we took Hunter to the vet for what we thought was a simple sore neck. The vet sent Hunter home with anti-inflammatory and pain meds, which we hoped would help Hunter recover and return to his normal, cheerful self. We thought Hunter was progressing until yesterday May 1 when Hunter's health took a turn for the worst. The scariest and most unimaginable ordeal happened when Hunter was in agony, crying in pain, and not able to walk. We rushed him to the emergency "VEG" in Hoboken, who immediately referred him to a neurologist in Red Bank, NJ. As any pet owner knows, taking your furry friend to an emergency vet is scary, but having to leave him overnight is even scarier. Just this morning, Dr. Glass and the amazing team at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital called us with the fearful news. Hunter had suffered a slipped disc in his neck/back area which was 50% compressed, causing him severe pain and the inability to walk. In some sort, it was a sigh of relief because we knew our boy wasn't paralyzed, but the prognosis for his recovery and ability to return to being a normal dog required immediate emergency surgery. Hunter underwent successful surgery and the team at Red Bank has been keeping him extremely comfortable as he recovers. With strict crate training and rest for 6-8 weeks, Hunter should return to being a happy four-year-old boy in no time. His almost four-year-old frenchie brother, Harley, misses him tremendously and can't wait to have him back home. The suddenness of this emergency has caused Eric and I to seek financial relief in covering the veterinarian bills. Any help or sharing of this fundraiser will be immensely appreciated. We are super blessed to have Hunter in our lives and hope to continue growing more memories with Hunter and you all once he's past this rough patch.
