Hope for Honey

February 15th update: THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE FOR SHARING AND DONATING (I’M CRYING WRITING THIS) we appreciate you SO MUCH!! Shelby and I are pretty exhausted doing around the clock care, but Honey is so worth it. I am in awe of the support. There truly is “Hope for Honey” all because of YOU! Honey is able to get treatment (surgery, ongoing vet assessments, ongoing medications, and care recovery) because of your support. Thank you so much from Honey!!!

Hi, my name is Julie! I have never made a Gofund me account before, but I was encouraged to do so as we really need help! I am creating this fundraiser for one of our foster kittens “Honey” (February 10th)..

On January 30th, I took Honey (and her brothers & sisters) to get a full assessment, receive all updated vaccines including rabies shot, dewormer/flea/tick/heart-worm prevention. We knew before, but it was determined that she had a right eye infection. At the vet, they did a swab which detected bacteria, so eye ointment antibiotics were prescribed. The vet put green dye into her eye, turned off the light to assess, and determined there was no ulcer. We went home and treated her eye as prescribed. As days passed it didn’t seem to get better or worse. We thought it was creating less pus but it was difficult to tell. No other kittens have an eye infection.

On February 10th, I noticed her eye looked significantly worse, swelling, discharge etc. I emailed the vet and attached pictures/video. Unexpected emergency!

I was able to get Honey back into the vet on the 10th for re-assessment and 4 new additional medications that ended up costing $300. The vet said the antibiotics usually help but sometimes we lose the battle. This time, after assessment, turning off the lights and putting green dye into her eye, I was notified that Honey has a large ulcer present in right eye. The vet said this is because she most likely has a viral eye infection with the bacterial eye infection at the same time. The vet described the eye like an onion and that the virus has created an ulcer by eating at the layers of the eye and then letting the bacteria in.

I can only imagine the pain/discomfort in her eye right now but we have started a new treatment to help with that. The vet said that we are going to try to hit her aggressively with these medications to help, but she is fairly confident Honey will need a right eye enucleation (eye removal surgery)

We have a follow-up appointment booked for Tuesday, February 21st at 8:30am and they are prepared to bring her right into surgery ($1,500 plus taxes). I can’t stop crying, this poor sweet baby girl just turned 4 months old. (I have rescued, fostered, and adopted out several kittens this past year. Honey has been the sweetest one right from the beginning giving cuddles and kisses. If Honey is around, and you’re around, you’ll hear her non-stop purring!) I am very overwhelmed and am asking for any support to help cover these large costs of Honey’s unexpected medical emergency.

Please please please share an “eye love you” to Honey by donating any amount of money to support her vet assessments, medication bills, eye removal surgery, and recovery. ♥️♥️♥️
