Hey there folks. My names Christy and I’m Joe’s wife. We’ve been together since 1999 and married since 2006. In August 2024 I rushed my husband to the hospital because he was severely ill. They ran a bunch of tests and within a couple days told us he had bladder cancer. We then made an appointment with a urologist and they ran a lot more tests, took all types of scans, blood work and urine. He had surgery in September to remove some of the tumors. Unfortunately they were only able to get 3. The main one is attached to his muscle in his bladder so the doctor couldn’t touch it. After surgery we were referred to his oncologist who also did a bunch of blood work and more scans. He was set to start chemo the beginning of November 2024, I took him in for his 1st round the 1st week of November and we were excited to be able to start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
Change in plans! His blood pressure started to sky rocket even though he’s on multiple medications to keep it under control it became the highest it’s ever been and we couldn’t get it to normalize. Therefore chemo had to stop since the chemotherapy raises your blood pressure. Two weeks ago I took him back to the hospital because I knew something wasn’t right. I’ve been watching him deteriorate for many months now but this time something just felt different. For weeks prior I had to help him walk because his legs weren’t really working. He was hospitalized this time for 6 days. 6 days of Avery and I going to the hospital early every morning and then me having to leave him in the hospital alone because I had to go to work so I can pay the bills.
Now here we are, the end of March 2025 he now has stage 4 cancer. Monday he starts chemo back up. His Dr finally changed some medications around and the dosage and his blood pressure has never been better. So he’ll do chemotherapy twice a month and also a immunotherapy which is $10,000 per dose. We do have medical insurance but unfortunately it doesn’t cover everything. And I have to pay a ton of co pays for Dr visits, his medications, scans and everything else. He applied months ago for social security but we haven’t heard anything back from them yet. I’m trying to do all of this on my own with just a server ( waitress ) salary. And it’s beyond difficult. We have our monthly bills that are due on top of making sure he has everything he needs. And he’s scheduled for surgery tomorrow to take out a kidney stone that’s stuck between his kidney and bladder. Which I have to pay the cop pay or they won’t due it. I’m emotionally and physically drained from working so much to try to do everything myself and not seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.
