Support Journey's Road to Recovery

Hi, we are Jess and Ceci, twin sisters who helped save sweet Journey!

3 weeks ago, on an early Saturday evening, we witnessed a man dump this sweet, beautiful girl on the side of the freeway in Yuba County, CA. He basically grabbed something from the ground, tossed it over an open fenced area; she ran towards it, and he ran to get into his truck and took off. We quickly turned around, away from ongoing traffic, to get her from going into the streets. She softly came towards us as we blocked her away from ongoing traffic. We didn't have any leashes with us at the time and only had a couple of ropes that we tied together to tether her inside our SUV. She was so scared, tail tucked in between her legs, hungry, and confused. Poor girl looked so ill, probably had not eaten for days.

With no shelters open and rescue organizations unwilling to take her due to her breed and size, it broke our hearts to hear that even the local Yuba County police were unable to help because of the local shelter's full capacity. Their advice was to 'keep her or let her go.' No local vets were available, closed early on the weekends. So, we rushed her to a 24-hour veterinary hospital 45 minutes away to ensure she got the care she needed.

Since we had our personal 3 dogs with us, we needed to ensure she didn’t have parvo or giardia while visiting family. Unfortunately, she wasn’t microchipped, no name tag, so we made sure to have her tested, got her first vaccines, rabies shot, heartworm, and flea medication.

She was extremely underweight, covered in fleas, and we were advised to isolate her from other pets for two weeks. Thankfully, our parents kindly fostered her during that time, until Jess could return to our hometown to pick her up and take her to Los Angeles, and begin her rehabilitation.

We are fundraising to cover additional medical expenses and ongoing care for Journey. She needs to get an ultrasound to check that her organs are stable and healthy. X-Rays for her spine, hips, tail, get her spayed, blood work, and cover her last vaccines.

Jess is a dog behaviorist and will be working alongside Rigo Garcia (trainer) to continue Journey's rehab and get her on a healthy foundation for the next 3 - 4 months or so and then work on finding a forever home for her. She has warmed our hearts with her sweet, playful energy and grateful heart.

We decided to name her JOURNEY! The name Journey embodies the essence of adventure, resilience, and growth, making it a meaningful life path of lessons. She has come a long way thus far and is slowly on her journey to recovery. <3

Journey, the sweet dog we rescued, needs your help to recover and live her best life. We will be posting updates on her journey here and on our socials!

Thank you so much for reading her story!
