On the 30th of April, John’s life changed forever. Following back surgery to remove bone pressing on his spinal cord, devastating complications during the operation sadly left John paralysed from the waist down.
John has always been one of the hardest-working people you could meet. Self-employed for many years, he often worked seven days a week, pushing through constant back pain to provide the very best service to his customers. Nothing was ever too much trouble — even when it was!
Family has always been at the centre of John’s life, especially his three beautiful granddaughters. He loves spending time with family and friends, going on holidays, being outdoors, keeping busy around the house, and generally always being on the go.
Now, as John begins the next chapter of his life, he faces enormous challenges ahead. He is expected to spend the next 3–6 months in the Spinal Unit in Glasgow, learning to adapt to life after paralysis.
John and Tracey also now face the difficult reality of having to leave their family home of 25 years, as it cannot be adapted to meet John’s needs. Their new home will still require significant adaptations, but being closer to their grandchildren will mean the world to John.
Alongside this come many unexpected costs — specialist wheelchairs, a car that can be adapted for John’s needs, home modifications, and countless other expenses that will continue to arise in the months ahead.
As John prepares for eventually returning home, we are asking, if you are able, for any donation towards the GoFundMe page we have set up. After speaking with both John and Tracey, we know how much your support, kindness, and generosity would mean to them as they navigate this incredibly difficult journey.
While life will look very different moving forward, we hope it can still be full of love, family, laughter, and special moments. Every donation, message, and share is truly appreciated.
