Hey y’all,

We are setting up this gofundme to help Sloane have security and comfort as they heal from life-saving top surgery while navigating the constraints of limited access to gender affirming care in Louisiana. This money will go towards paying the Care credit for surgery plus covering their expenses while they recover, a time where working is not gonna be an option for them and we wanna make sure they don’t have any stressors and can focus on healing up!

It’s been a years-long process and as it stands, their surgery is set for January 16th, 2025!

After attempting many times to receive this procedure through Louisiana Medicaid, it is no longer an option in the state of Louisiana. There are no surgeons accepting Medicaid for gender affirming procedures in their home state. Due to the political climate and no longer being able to wait in their body any longer for this care, they are traveling to a gender affirming surgeon in Charlotte, NC, and paying out of pocket.

While being able to select a surgeon who genuinely cares about trans people is exciting, going into further debt to receive this necessary care is daunting. They will be using Care credit to pay for the surgery, and they are trying to put some money aside for post-surgery recovery since they won’t be able to work for 4-6 weeks.

The cost for out of pocket surgery is $10,000. They have $2,000 saved from their fundraising in the spring, when they thought they would be able to get their surgery in May of 2024.

The money generously donated will be used the following way:

$8,000 for total surgery cost

$4,800 3 months of rent and bills

This is a breakdown of the expected missed wages Sloane will have during surgery/recovery time:

~12 event shifts @ $200 +tips = $2600

~2 months of dog walking/care = $800

~2 months of childcare = $400

Also not included in this amount are flights, accommodations, and meals in Charlotte, NC.
